U-lace FAQs

U-lace FAQs

What is a U-Lace?

A U-Lace is a modular 2-3/8" segment of elasticised lace made to span a single set of eyelets, providing you with virtually limitless ways to customise and configure the look of your sneakers. With 250% stretch and engineered rebound they will expand and contract to fit almost any sneaker with eyelets.

What is a Top-Lace?

A Top Lace is a 20" standard lace that allows U-Lacers to add a standard bow-tie knot at the top of their sneakers even though they are laced with U-Lace segments. The Top-Lace is required at all times when competing in sneakers laced in U-Lace.

Why is the product called U-Lace?

The idea of U-Lace was born because the creator of the product saw lacing schemes in store windows that were impossible for consumers to recreate at home. He wanted to give the consumer – that means YOU – the ability to custom lace your kicks in millions of quick and easy combinations. Thus U-Lace.

Does U-Lace work in all Sneakers?

U-Lace will work in nearly any sneaker with eyelets as long as the eyelets are at least 1/8" in diameter. Of course some of the sneakers we see today use loops vs. eyelets and U-lace will not work on those. The good news as that at least 90% of sneakers have eyelets.

How many U-Lace’s come in a package?

A standard pack of U-Lace contains 16 U-Lace Segments and 2 Top Laces.

How Many Sneakers Can I lace up with a pack of U-Lace?

A package of U-Lace contains 16 U-Lace Segments and 2 20" top laces. Since most shoes contain 8 sets of eyelets, a package of U-Lace is enough to lace up one pair of shoes in either a solid colour - or in multiple colours, with a multi-pack.

If you buy single colour packs and want them to create multi-colour designs then a single colour pack will go much further and can be split across 3 or 4 pairs of shoes.

Is U-Lace easy to install in my sneakers?

Installing U-Lace in some sneakers is easier than others but it’s still a snap. You simply pick the colour you want and push the aglet thru the eyelet and pull from the other side. Once all the way thru the eyelet just give a tug to lock the aglet against the shoe. Repeat until the sneaker is fully laced.

Check out the instructions on the box of U-Lace – they actually lock together inside the shoe and the instructions show you how.

Can I play sports in my U-Laces?

You can compete in sneakers laced up with U-Lace. Just remember to always wear the top lace when playing any sport in U-Lace.

Are there really over 110 Billion U-Lace colour combinations?

Ahhh, yes there are. The creator of U-Lace did the maths and here’s how it goes:

Most shoes have 8 sets of eyelets (8) and U-Lace currently has 24 colours (24). For each set of eyelets you get to choose 1 of the 24 colours. This happens 8 times. So that turns into the equation 24 to the 8th power = 110,075,300,000 combinations.

So why do you say that there are 2 trillion colour and configuration combos?

Well in addition to picking colours U-Lacers also get to pick configurations. Criss-cross; parallels, teeter-totter, etc. We created about 18 and decided to leave the rest to you. But for every colour combination we created 18 configurations.

110,000,000,000 colour combinations multiplied by 18 is nearly 2 trillion colour/configuration combos. Which is why you really can "transform your sneakers into a limited edition of one."
